Around 60 works by Lee Chulsoo, one of Korea's greatest woodprint artist, will exceptionally be presented in Belgium. This exhibition will focus on the works produced by the artist between 1992 and 2017.
The Korean Cultural Center in Brussels will dedicate a space to most of its contemporary art as part of an exhibition tour in Europe. Indeed, this exhibition of woodcut prints is touring through six European countries. It first went to Hungary, then traveled to Spain, Germany and France. Its next destination is none other than Belgium, before finishing the tour under the beautiful sun of Italy.
Lee Chulsoo's work is characterized by a specific style based on simple lines, impressive images and beautiful texts. He is a self-taught artist, who began drawing and painting in the 80's and gradually became known as a committed artist.
Through his works, focusing mainly on nature, peasants and workers, he often express sharp criticism on society by denouncing social injustice and defending democratic values.
In addition, Lee Chul Soo is also an artist who is very attached to everything spiritual. Since the 90s, he has been very interested in Buddhism and the practice of Zen in everyday life. We find this attraction with the singular beauty of his works in which we perceive a beautiful harmony between artistic creation and spirituality.
The exhibition Smiling Heart invites itself as a pleasant discovery of the beauty of engraving by the works of LEE Chulsoo. A rendezvous not to be missed that awaits you from Wednesday, June 20 at 7 pm at the Korean Cultural Center of Brussels. The opening of the exhibition will be followed by a cocktail reception.
