- JEM International Puppet Festival 

The JEM Festival is Belgium's premier international puppet festival. Held at the Théâtre Royal du Peruchet, home to one of Europe's richest private puppet collections, the festival showcases diverse puppet arts from around the world. The 2024 edition will feature 10 countries including Slovenia, Ukraine, Italy, and South Korea, presenting 18 shows with 42 performances. The festival continues to celebrate puppetry's creativity and diversity, inviting both renowned international artists and new talents to enchant audiences of all ages.

This year, South Korea was selected as the guest country, and three works were introduced



<Hong Dong-ji & Isimi - Art bakery FFWANG>

Glove Puppet Theater. A work that combines the story of ‘Hong Dong-ji’ and ‘Isimi’ from the Korean traditional puppet play ‘Kkok Dugaksi Noleum’ with the format of the Italian traditional puppet theater ‘Guarattelle’. Art bakery FFWANG which embodies the idea of creating performances that burst with fun and emotion, focuses on puppet shows while seeking to combine various genres.

 

 

<Story with Strings - The Long and Short Company>

Object Theater. A participatory puppet show that uses strings to express the story of encounters and farewells. Since its inception in 2013 as a one-man theater company, the performer has started performing at street art festivals, participating in various domestic and international festivals through this work. 


<Puppet Fantasy - Theater Sangsahwa>

A puppet show that expresses the emotions and beauty of Korean culture through flowers, butterflies, cranes, tigers, and hanbok. Founded in 1997 by Korean-Japanese Ko Kyu-mi, the company creates works based on traditional themes and emotions, showcasing performances that blend elements of puppetry, dance, and mime in various ways
