KOREAN CULTURE CLASSES / First Half of 2020


*Janggu & Hanji craft classes are full. Thank you for your comprehension.


The Korean Cultural Center Brussels is now taking applications for the following Korean Culture Classes: Korean calligraphy, Janggu (traditional Korean drum) and Korean paper art.

With these courses taking from March to June 2020, students will have the opportunity to participate in these exciting cultural activities weekly.

◌ How to enroll

  - Please click this button next to register: REGISTRATION

- Applications and payment must arrive by Sunday, March 1, 2020 (Midnight deadline)

- Places are LIMITED and are on a come first served basis for each cultural class!

- KCC reserves the right to change the schedules and cancel a course if there are not enough applications (Minimum 6 applications per class)

- Registration will be completed once your payment is confirmed!

- You will receive a confirmation email from us after your payment is confirmed on Tuesday,  March 3, 2020.

 

◌ General Conditions

- Refunds: Before classes start: 100% / Within the first 2 weeks of classes: 50%

/ 2 weeks after classes have started: NO REFUND

- The courses can be cancelled if there are not enough applicants (Minimum 6 people)

- The registrants that drop out of the course without notification will be limited in their next enrollment.

- The KCC reserves the right to change the schedules or cancel the classes due to unforeseen events.

Those with less than 80% of attendance will have restrictions on their next registration.

1. Korean Calligraphy Seoye

Instructor: Jeounghee Kim

 

Korean calligraphy is an artistic tradition of writing in Hangeul, the Korean alphabet. While slowly drawing very precise lines with a brush, Korean calligraphy offers a way to meditate, as it demands intense concentration and patience. It will be also an opportunity to learn Hangeul.

● Hangeul, Korean alphabet

● Writing Korean words/ sentences in print (beginner/Intermediate), in cursive writing (advanced)

● (New) Drawing plants: Orchid, Bamboo

 

LEVEL GUIDE

- If you have never learned Hangeul, or calligraphy -> Beginner

- If you have already learned calligraphy before or can read Korean

-> Intermediate/Advanced (places are very limited!)

2. Janggu Traditional Korean Drum

Instructor: Basile Peuvion

 

Get to know the traditional Korean instrument, the Janggu and how to play it. This class provides various experiences of a traditional culture that is slowly disappearing. Participants are able to learn and feel the exciting melodies of this traditional Korean instrument. The program first begins with a basic understanding of the Janggu. Afterwards, the participants will learn how to play a traditional folk song together in group and will be able to feel the calming effect on mind and body.

3. Korean Paper Art Hanji Gong-ye

Instructor: Yoon hee Yang

 

Hanji, traditional Korean paper, has been the single most important material to produce decorations and household items in Korea for a long time. Papers are generally perceived as weak material but Hanji can be extremely durable when they are glued together in many layers and covered with oil or lacquer. Through this class, you will make your own cup mat, frame and jewel box, using Hanji.
