[GUGAK ON TOUR] Korean Instrument, Daegeum

Korean Music Lecture & Concert on Tour

Lectures, performances and workshops on the daegeum, a representative wind instrument in Korean traditional music, will be presented in four cities in Belgium. Participants will have the unique opportunity to receive detailed explanations about Korean music and instruments, experience playing the instruments firsthand, and enjoy live performances.

Belgian composer Baudouin de Jaer, who has already released three albums featuring the Korean string instrument geomungo, will share his experiences as a foreign composer creating music for Korean instruments. He will be joined by Taehyeon Kim (daegeum) and Taejoung Kim (janggu), musicians from the National Gugak Center's Contemporary Gugak Orchestra, who will present performances ranging from traditional Korean music to contemporary compositions.

The concerts will take place in major venues, including the Namur Concert Hall - Le Grand Manège/CAV&MA, Centre Culturel de Bruxelles Nord - Maison de la Création, Centre Culturel d’Evere, l’ENTRELA’, attracting audiences of all ages. Special lectures and concerts for students and professors of the Royal Conservatories of Brussels, Leuven, Mons and Liège are also planned. The event aims to showcase various aspects of Korean music and provide participants with a profound musical experience.

This event is co-organized by the Korean Cultural Center and NOODIK Productions (Baudouin de Jaer) in collaboration with the National Gugak Center, with the cooperation of cultural centres and Conservatories in each city.
