Beyond Boundaries, OBBA

In celebration of the 55th Anniversary of Korea-EU diplomatic relations

             The Korean Cultural Center of Brussels organizes this exhibition <Beyond Boundaries, OBBA> in Brussels, through presenting Korean architecture studio OBBA. This special occasion is to celebrate the 55th anniversary of Korea-EU diplomatic relations and the 12th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) scheduled for the 18^th and the 19^th of October in Brussels. From the 9^th of May to the 2^nd of June, there will be a model, photography and video exhibition of OBBA’s works including Beyond the Screen, The Vault House, The Layer, The Oasis, The Illusion, Four Little Houses, The Bamboo House, as well as their major work The Floating Island that has been invited for the Bruges Triennial of 2018.

At the same time, the Korean Cultural Center created an opportunity for people to see an actual work of OBBA, The Floating Island, in Bruges. The Floating Island is a temporary pavilion erected on the canal for the six-month exhibition period of the Bruges Triennial 2018. The island-like structure stirred the medieval landscape of Bruges, creating a new scenery during the exhibition period (from the 5^th of May until the 16^th of September).

The Artist Talk in presence of OBBA’s representatives, Lee So-jung and Kwak Sang-joon, will take place on Wednesday May 9 from 7:00 PM in the Korean Cultural Center in Brussels. The opening of the exhibition will be followed with a cocktail reception on that day.

ARTIST ‘OBBA’

OBBA (Office for Beyond Boundaries Architecture) is an International architecture studio established in 2012 by Lee So-jung and Kwak Sang-joon with a critical perspective on everyday life. The group observes problems that arise in a rapidly changing modern society. They strive to present multifaceted solutions to stimulate qualitative growth of urban landscape from an integrative perspective rather than an individual perception. OBBA carries out a range of architecture projects with a focus on boundaries that serve multiple meanings.
