The Korean Cultural Center of Belgium will host its 3rd exhibition of Belgian-Korean photography <STILL LIVES>. The photo exhibition, which will take place from November 13, 2019 to January 31, 2020, focuses on the theme of still life. The KCC will present the work of three Korean photographers: YOON Giljung, GWON Doyeon, PARK Mejung and three Belgian photographers: Wim WAUMAN, Vincen BEECKMAN, Geert DE TAEYE.

Still life is an artistic genre that was already popular in Western and Northern Europe since the end of the 16th century. In Dutch, "still life" is called "Stilleven", which means "life that does not move". This genre defines the form of a work depicting a fixed subject, isolated from its natural environment and crystallized in the aesthetic vision of the artist.

The aim of the photographers taking part in this exhibition is to breathe new meaning and new history into it, dismantling the shape of its subject and changing the perception that one can have when looking at a work. This is what we call the "reinterpretation of the artist". Still life photography introduces the public to the marvelous and the unexpected in unsuspected places, the trivial things that we do not usually look at.

Each of the six artists participating in this exhibition, presents recent works that reinterpret the concept of "still life", and that give their work a new, reinvented and fascinating experience.
