6 musicians from diverse genres join creative forces in the
eccentric music band Ssing Ssing. The group welds two totally disparate
elements: rock band music and the typical authentic, somewhat oscillating
vocals from Korean folk songs, while also including elements from ballads, pop
music and shamanist rituals. In a fast-growing society where people tend to stray away
from traditional rituals, Ssing Ssing brings them back in touch with the cultural
roots of Korea through a very playful style, accessible for 21st
century urban citizens. Ssing Ssing’s bizarre vibe creates a fun and
laidback atmosphere. Adding up to the experience is Ssing Ssing’s very
extravagant visual style and stage manners full of energy.
One of the band’s
singers, Hee-moon Lee, inherited the skill of singing Gyeonggi Folk songs (the Important Intangible Cultural Asset No. 57
of Korea), and music director/bass guitarist Young-gyu Jang is a blockbuster film
music director. The other band members are Da-hye Choo (Vocal), Seung-tae Shin (Vocal), Chul-hee
Lee (Drum), Tae-won Lee (Electric guitar/Keyboard).
